Pulling up the messenger line is a pain, but I use a single messenger line with three hooks, one for each of the halyards (jib, main, and spinnaker). Since my halyards run inside the mast its only the outside that needs protection from the sun. At the end of the day, I hook on the halyards and pull the single messenger line to the top of the mast. My halyards stay protected inside the mast. Only takes a minutes to do. On my Precision, the halyards were exterior, so I made sure they went up the North side of the mast as much as possible. This may not be an issue up north where the UV is weaker, but in florida its bad. I plan on never having to buy another halyard..I will die using these
