The P-23 seems to sail best in higher wind with a crew of four. 15+ knots brings out its strengths. Running dead downwind is usually not productive, as a broad reach or running wing and wing by the lee is faster to the mark. Above 15 knots, running downwind becomes more useful.
We had a 18' Buccaneer years ago, which would fly on smooth water. Probably similar to the 185, but we would have to foot-off in 3 foot waves to keep her moving in Lake Michigan.
Our Club has a Holder 20' that really kicks butt in light to moderate conditions. If she is kept close to the windward shore in a blow with relatively smooth water, she disappears on a plane. The Skipper has been sailing her for years.
Donnie, hope you are able to bring the 185.
