Isn't this an inherent possibility with most open day sailers? I certainly have seen O-Days capsize on our lake. Usually they do not go 180 because so much of the lake is too shallow. One person took his newly purchased day sailer to a larger lake and capsized and sank it when the wind gusted up. It was, in that case, a lack of sailing experience and experience with that new, to him, boat that was responsible. I hope we get to see the outcome of the investigation of this case. I suspect we will find the issue has more to do with the boat handling and understanding of the boat, than defect in design (unless one could say all open boats have that same defect).
