what the people on this site are saying, he is believing TOW BOAT people!!! or COAST GUARD PEOPLE.. I was in the coast guard, and they DON'T KNOW SAILBOATS!!! Tow boat people don't know sailboats either!! First of all, I used to right my Hobie 16 by myself 140lbs after the WORLD told me I couldn't. When a P185 is upside down with the stern open you would have MORE air inside, not LESS air, and it would be refreshed so you can (if your an idiot) stay under there. The key to small boats capsizing to get off the boat..all of you need to resist the urge to hold on..Don't hold on, jump away. Common sense says you need to lock the centerboard in the down position while sailing, because, well you may capsize. It can be so bad that boats like my Force 5 will capsize with sail up and no one on board. If he sailed a Laser like he said, then he knows better..This may be a case where he's out on a mission to do harm or get even for some reason.. Follow the money trail and you will find the motive for his blaming of the design. BOTTOM LINE: Inhale, Exhale, think real hard and say: you know guys, if only I would have practiced capsize drills I would have understood that the boat WOULD turtle quickly when I held on, just like all the other boats in its class. I guess I bought the wrong boat for me, I should have bought a "self-righting" keel boat. Sorry for badmouthing a design when it was my lack of knowledge that drove this whole incident. Sorry Precision..
