6.9 Lifting Keel Lock Pins

Report: outside forum guidelines

My new (to me) S2 6.9 has a warning on the lifting keel trunk that, for crew and boat safety, pins should be inserted in the two holes provided when the keel is down.

Two questions:

I assume the pins are to keep the keel from sliding up in case of a knockdown. Is that correct?

And, the pins in my boat are missing. Were the originals fastpins, bolts/nuts, or what?

Thanks.

Steve
