After two races (5th and 2nd) I find we are losing distance on downwind legs to boats with masthead chutes (Cat 27, Wavelength, etc.).
We are fine upwind even with non-racing sails and a roller furler. The sails are hardly used and very flat, so we do very well going to weather in the Potomac where there is no chop. Also, our courses are upwind and downwind with few reaches so full sails that are good on reaches are not a priority.
To improve light air performance I have bought 5/32 inch low stretch sheets and attach them to the .75 oz spin with small stainless sister (or brummel) hooks. This helps, but I really need a .5 oz chute.
Has anyone purchased one lately? Or any chute for that matter? Prices? Service? Quality?
Thanks.
