I wouldn't say the 9.1's are poorly sailed. I have been racing keel boats since I was a kid for over 30 years mostly in San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco in very stiff competition. I am not great, but I get good starts, know tactics and how to trim sails and pay attention to the details. My crew is great and they know the boat.
If I don't resolve this lifting keel problem with the local quasi-PHRF crowd (the club is not an official member of PHRF)I may still beat them. I think it will come down to a righting test at the dock. I may drill some holes in the LK trunk 25% of the way down and 50% of the way down and find a point at which the boat pops back up. If anyone has any advice on that let me know.
Also, where should I drill a hole to place a pin that would hold the LK all the way down? How far above the inside of the hull bottom, but high enough to be above the water line?
Thanks for your help. This is a great forum.
