GPS vs Knot Log

Water speed and GPS speed will differ in a current. VMG is given by the GPS if you tell it what your next waypoint is. VMG equals GPS speed if you sail directly toward the waypoint. My sailing has been on lakes lately so I used my GPS to calibrate my knot log which was reading 25% low. Also, the knot log seems to have a different error on opposite tacks so I had to calibrate for a compromise. Have you experienced this?
