chain plates, shrouds

Report: outside forum guidelines

Iwould appreciate some feedback from other owners.

1. My chainplates have a small 1/4 inch rod welded on perpindicular to the long axis just below where they go through the deck. Are they all this way on these boats, and why?

2. last season I had this " rod" come through the deck, cracking things as it went, but the chaiplate did not appear to have moved, so I reasoned that the deck must have flexed downwards when the shrouds were heavily loaded. I repaired this, and it happened again. Anyone else seen something similar?

3. In heavier air, 15-20kn, my leward shrouds are going fairly slack, more so w/ increased backstay. Do any of you have tension numbers from loos gauge that are working for you? Is the mast so bendy that this will happen anyways?
