My chainplate had the rodds attached also and I had the same problem with them sawing a hole in my deck. I removed the rods. This does alow the deck to flex as needed without damaging the deck. The only issue with his is that you need to reseal the chainplate openings regularly. Rig tensions are a somewhat personal thing in that it somewhat depends on exactly how your rig is set up. I know some people use the J22 tuning guide and add a bit for the increased boat weight. In higher wind speeds the leward shrouds will be fairly slack even with the rig tuned corectly.
