My pregnant wife and I took the boat out on the 4th. We we're smoking down the lake kicking all the Hunter butt we came across. We then turned on a run and hoisted the spinnaker. We we're doing about 5.5 knots when I heard a pop. The spinnaker pole ring had come loose from the mast. I had been waiting for it to go bad, it was bent up pretty bad from use. I went to the front of the boat and grabbed the spinnaker to start stuffing it into the bag. My wife loosened the halyard and I heared another pop. I kept stuffing the spinnaker in the bucket. I then turned and WOW, the mast had laid down and my wife was covered by the sail. I didn't even hear it go down. My wife said it fell in slow motion, mabey the sail acted like a parachute? We got the mast secured to the boat, sail and lines out of the water and motored in. It turns out the pin for the headstay had come loose on the mast. The good news is that there was no damage to the boat or mast. My vent had taken the brunt of the weight from the gooseneck landing on it.
