Mostly I'm just sailing. My club doesn't care. I could put some fishing line around the gunwales. Have you ever tripped on a lifeline? Have you ever been rolling around on the deck and one kept you aboard? That's the only way they would be effective. We could decide they are an unnecessary hazard and ban them.
