My two cents on the mast discussion. I had to replace my mast about twelve years ago (collision) and had the original mast maker Kenyon which had changed ownership just about then make me one. It is physically the same although it is my impression that the replacement mast is a little bendier which I do not particularly like.
It is my believe that as far as class rules might go we should stay with the same configuration and dimension. I do not think this to be a problem, there is nothing unusual about our masts that might make it difficult to manufacture it is probably cut from the same stock as a number of other boats may use. A tapered mast will have different bending characteristics which definitly will have an impact on the boats performance. It goes without saying that the lenght must be the same. I agree fundamentally that we should not go to extremes with this as to specifying manufacturers but certainly the material and the dimensions should be uniform.
Thanks for listening to the traditionalist.
