During the early 1970's the class E scows went to a non rotating tapered aluminum mast. This change made all the existing spars non competitive it caused everyone who wanted to compete to replace their spar. Follwoing the E's the C's went to a rotating non tapered aluminum extrusion the performance was not a large change, however everyone still updated their existing spar. Another change came in the late 1990's this was a more subtle change but probably effected performance greater, the sail track went from a flat inward mounted to an oblong shape this allowed more consist bend regardless of the rotation of the spar. This required a new design concerning sail shape. My point be carefull to not eliminate existing boats (the few we do have) to compete on a one design level.
