Good weblog, very helpful. Well this weekend is the moment of truth for my keel saga. The diver will attempt locating. If found, it seems the real work begins. I'm still unsure from all the pictures, diagrams etc. just how this thing resides in the boat. My model must be style # 2 according to the Schock manual. I don't understand the inspection port photographs as I compare to my setup. I guess it wouldn't be possible with this type.

Hopefully things will become more clear as I dig into it. I appreciate your suggestion of welding a shallow draft stationary keel as a plan B. Being a first time sailor and not having close access to numerous waterways, I could see putting up with that in able to get some use out of this boat. I just want to sail it. I must be hooked as I find my whitewater kayaks are gathering dust and all my focus is on getting to the lakes.
