Hi everyone,
I bought a 1970 Santana 21 with 6hp evinrude 4 stroke motor on trailer for $1500. It's my first real sailboat (the others were day sailers that would capsize if I did something wrong). I've sailed it twice in Pyramid Lake, NV (Near Reno) and it did very well. I have sailed on Ventures and MacGregors before and the Santana sails a little better I think. This weekend I'll be taking it to Eagle Lake, north of Susanville, Ca and spending my first night aboard.
I just ordered a new outboard bracket because with the one that's on it, the engine stays in the water the whole time and probably slows the boat down. I ordered the Panther brand stainless 20HP mount from ebay for $115 shipped.
She's a beautiful boat and perfect for me. The only compliant I have is I have to back my truck too deep during launching. I read somewhere that the trailer tongue is supposed to extend but mine is welded solid.
I'd like to find someone with a Santana 21 so we can compare rigging since I had to guess how to rig it up. Mine does not have a boom vang but does not seem to need it.
Happy sailing.
