Are you thinking that the board would rotate around the plastic pipe or would the bushing be tight in the board and the pipe rotate around the pin (if the pin was already worn, that wouldn't help much)? Would the pipe extend past the sides of the trunk? If not, you don't need even 2" and you won't increase the bearing surface much.

I don't think the original design is a problem for folks who don't keep their boats in the water for extended periods. For those of us that keep their boat on a mooring or slip all season, keeping the pin attached to the boat becomes an issue as important as the wear on the pin itself.

I think all the limitations of the 2023 come from leaving the boat in the water for long periods, it wasn't designed for that. If they bring back the design, this is where I think they could improve things most... a boat that could easily be trailered, but doesn't have to be.
