While working on my bunks the other day, I had pulled off all four (4) of the mounting brackets. You know, the small 90 degree plates that bolt from the trailer uprights into the bunks?
As a matter of course, I inspected them. I found one of them to be... broken. At the 90 degree angle, it had broken. The crack was easily overlooked, but ran half way across the plate. Of course, the crack probably CONTINUED in the metal for some bit, but this was just the VISIBLE (to the eye) crack. It looked and felt normal, was in one piece. The visible crack was on the INSIDE of the bend. Just a small heads up, in case you guys want to take a small wire brush, lay under there and check them out. Pretty easy to check out, regardless of whether or not the boats on the trailor.
Which leads me to MY MINOR PROBLEM: I can't find a matching bracket anywhere. And truly, I'd just as soon buy one, rather than take the time to fabricate one myself.
Has anyone tracked one of these brackets down in the past?
Oh, yes, it was readily apparent that this stress crack was from age. That is, the (regardless of how minute, or not) forward and backward minute (i.e. small) shifting of the boat when loaded, years of this minimal 'flexing', I would guess.
Where to find one?
