I'm finally machining my new replacement mast (last night) and I'm having major reservations in cutting the slots for the spreader bar. Everything is complete except for the spreader bar, so here is my question to you experienced Santana owners: Would you replace a new mast with the existing spreader bar design or equip with a spreader bracket?
The spreader bar design certainly works, I like the way that it can transfer the load through the mast via the bar... but I've heard of and seen failures at the spreaders too.
I've looked for spreader bracket assemblies with the correct aft angle and have had no luck. If anyone is using this design, could you please inform me of the supplier and/or part number and approximate costs.
Thanks, Blake
PS. I installed a jib hound instead of the rotating bar and slot design for the head sail. Does anyone know why this design was preferred by Shock? Just curious.
