Yeah, next time, I think I'll just stick to my first rule of always laying tracks... you know, smoke the cigar, sip the beer WHILE MAKING WAY?!
In the pic, she had been dying down for a while. However, we started the serious catfight (clawing/scratching) to windward with the pre-dawn and, as such, what you see is (part of) the entire genoa in use as we would gain momentum/speed, turn into the wind (when we could) and try to beat (i.e. 'cheat') 10 or 15 feet, or whatever, to windward, then fall off to gain speed again before the next wave slammed into us.
All in all, nothing to 'horrible' (just a nice shot). At the time of this picture, we were fully rigged with both sails shaken out, and were in a registered (pegged) 25.1 knot breeze, with said breeze (and also swells/caps) slowly deminishing, totally gone down to a quiet 14-15 knots or so by... eight-ish?
But it was the hard driving of the bow into 'irons' which really first showed a positive gain result for us.
