Not sure what you mean. When I lower the mast using the pole, I stand aft of the mast and slowly lower it and raise it manually as though I am not using the gin pole at all. I am basically using the pole as a backup only. It is a little tricky to do this, however. This is because and am feeding the line out (or in) while at the same time I am raising or lowering the mast with my shoulder under it.
