Concering welding

It is the way to go if you can find some one who is skilled enough not to wreak the temper of the mast. Also you will need those sections still and you will have to paint the base wit a good epoxy type paint, since your anodizing around the weld will be gone. I think the mast is 6063 and you will need someone who can do this type of welding "Tungsten inert gas welding" And if they have a oven they can reheat treat it for you actually they could reanodize it if they have that much room.

My suggestion do the cheap repair take your time to get it correct and you will be good for many many years. The odds are something will probably wipe out your mast at some point in time and the insurance will pay for a new one.

Actually maybe you should try a claim boat yard could fix you right up and I am really sure they have seen this one before.
