If you switch from your roller boom you'll need to add one or two points of reefing gear. Lazy jacks are another item to deal with during set up as well. You can't use a vang with roller reefing but by the time you shorten sail a little extra twist isn't a bad thing. Roller furling mast's or boom's are a "feature" on larger cruisers. I feel the best way to store a sail is by rolling it up instead of folding. It keep the cloth fillers from breaking down as fast compared to folding. When I get new sails I'm going to upgrade the gooseneck and stay with the roller boom. As far as material I'd stay away from mylar and other plastics for our use. They don't tolerate the sun or luffing as well as cloth and last longer. Bob
