Mostly, for a more stable support for the upper tiller. However, George, I knowe that you're a taller guy as I am. You may find that you'll want to 'tweek' it to get the tiller to 'just' that right spot. To raise the tiller, obviously, you'd need to slide the wheel aft. Failing this, and what may work well, is a spacer used at that same point you want.
I find my wheel where it's at to be incredible comfortable and 'perfect' for me. Of course, that begs the question: did it work out (lucky) perfect for me by random... or did my cruise to the Mackinac Bridge make me ACCUSTOMED to it at that height?
In any event, I hope it works as wonderful for you as it does for me. I have noticed, however, that I have already come to 'accept' it as normal, that I no longer notice the pleasure it gives me using it...
...until I look at it, and recall not having to put up with the 'old' ways...
