This is one of those things I notice (i.e. remember) every now and then and, when I do, I'm sailing, so nothing to do about it! Yes, here's what I have:
Sail is... original in APPEARANCE, but too new, and in better shape than it should be in. Has the same pastel colors on it, with the 'S', etc, so my guess it was from the same original sail maker (Elliot-Pattison, or some such). Sorry, it came with the boat when I bought it.
Anyway, here's why I am glad you asked: the boom has (maybe they all do?) an eye bolt that passes through it. The 'eye' being vertically in the 'up' position when under full sail. Don't know, but suspect it was a PO 'mod'. Anyway, I have a cumbersome (time consuming) line in place, have since buying the boat. Hence, I've not 'played' with it as often as I should to actually learn what shape works best under certain conditions.
So, whenever I do remember (when sailing), or want to play around with it, I then think I have to get around to designing something... then promptly forget about it every time I'm in a sail shop.
So, instead of looking around through magazines, checking out bits and pieces of hardware that will work for me (block or two with a cam cleat is what my initial rough thought was)....
CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH A PHOTO OF WHAT THE SYSTEM SHOULD LOOK LIKE???????
I actually would like to play around with the shape a lot more. Flattening the foot works well with one wind direction, but sucks in another.
Anyway, I assume this is what you mean by "flattening shelf". If not, please explain to me, as I don't recall hearing the term before (No-one ever talked to me of doing this before, I just took to naturally playing with the sail shape, as it seemed to make sense to me to do so).
