Just had to comment on the insurance issue....
Do you use gasoline for your outboard. Ever spill any? Know what it costs if the wrong person notices?
If your boat sunk in 100 ft of water (eg. the hull was punctured when the mast came down), do you want to pay out of pocket for the salvage/removal? Or maybe you prefer that taxpayers take care of it?
How about if your boat were involved in a collision and someone got hurt? How about paying to fix the other guy's boat?
How about if simply someone got hurt while sailing? Or when that mast came down?
Insurance covers a lot more than just your boat!
