Thinking about what you said; I wonder why so many people insist on "saving money" on cheap China junk. (... and I'm not talking about the junk sailboat.)
As an example, you sell 100% of a boat load of widgets. Fifty percent of the widgets fall apart. Five to 10% get refunded while the rest get thrown away or "rebuilt at a later time". If you basically had 90% profit on whatever widgets you made, you'd look pretty good to the bean counters!
Basically China has NO quality control! It's all about money. Thinking further back, what happened to Japan back in the 1950's and 60's? They dumped a bunch of junk on the American market. After a while the Japanise government forced most to clean up their act and make better things. After many years they are now accepted as equals, (some say better).
This hasn't happened in China yet. After a few years many people will get smart and stop buying China junk and this will force them to make quality products using better quality control and environmental, (Don't start me on that one! When that happens the cost will have to increase making other good things nearly equal. Then the world will be a better place.
Sea you, George E. Norkus
