All boats have problems
I mean everyone every produced, I am sure the first dude drifting around on a log wanted the 999999 BC model not the 1,000,000 BC Log and it was unavalible due to branch problems. Is Schock going to produce anymore perhaps, but not now and also for much more green.
If you have a chance to buy 96 go for it, you will have one of the younger boats you will have a trailer sailing water ballasted schock. The factory is just making fixed keel models currently except for the sabot and lido. If they revisit this boat it will be more $$$, another thing we have noticed on the board there have not been many coming up for sale anymore. Maybe two a year used to be alot more avalible I would say about 5.
That leaves you with these choices Catalina, Hunter, Precision, West Wright Potter, and McGregor.
Tough call but you could be patient and wait for one with the tank repairs done to come on the market. Or you could be sailing, a 96 is the first year the boats were factory done, I would purchase that boat myself if I was looking. If it is the one in San Diego, my only real complaint with it is that one it did not have many options. But you could have a lot of fun fitting her out.
Time to stop lurking time to go sailing,
Charles
