I was/am interested in an extended tensioning lever/bowSPUD like Rudy built (bowspud, because to short for bowsprit). Anyway, haven't been able to locate a piece of SS. So what I did, was think about it, and decided I could make do with the existing system, if I could only find a piece of hardware that would work 'just right'. After digging around, I found a... well, kind of a modified bail. It's the perfect shape, size, holes, etc. Like a giant SS 'U' shape.
Basically, I simply pulled the 1/4" bolt through the pulpit/tensioning lever (stancion #1), place this inverted 'U' over, slide the bolt home, clamp her tight.
Attached to THIS, is my snap shackle and block. Tack line runs from cockpit, through a couple of fairleads I put in, then the tack line is CENTERED by a fairlead, put through this snap shackle.
So far, it appears that my Asymm flies best when allowed to be several feet out (head) of the mast. At some wind angles, I even let the tack drift up, and somewhat out, over the pulpit.
A rather simple and effective rig. Do you want me to email you some pics? Not sure if my digital zoom is good enough, but the mast attachment is a simple reinforced (i.e. large) typical bail.
