My buddies GPS was lying to us last Friday night.

Last Friday night, sailing. The wind registered at 33.5 knots, and the GPS informed us that we were making good @ 8.5 knots!
Not bad, as I would have said more like in the solid 7's.
Do GPS errors like this occur often? At least, I'm convinced it was lying...
