At 20+, I will ALMOST always be reefed, just in case, even when I'm fairly confident it MAY not be needed. The exceptions are the 'oddball' sail, really heavy air, and the wind, sea, etc matches up just perfect for the course.
Also, if I have my main reefed, I'm just about 100% also 'reefing' the foresail... although that is done more to distribute the load, keep her better tuned, etc at different wind angles, as I can really feel the difference on the tiller when the genoa is drawing far more power than it should, when compared to the main.
Not sure how to better explain it. You guys probably know what I mean.
