"back up plates"

Report: outside forum guidelines

In Response To: vertical cuts into the floor (Paul Germain)

4 inches wide (2" on each side of the cut) all the way around all sides of the cutout. Attach them to the remaining floor first, then drop the pieces in and they will rest on the backup plates. (mine were aluminum and only about 1.5" side)

thickened epoxy (a couple of coats, I think it shrinks a little as it cures).

The backup plates hold the epoxy until everything sets up. after that, the joint is stronger than the original floor.
