Hi guys,
For what its worth, I mounted an Overton's bimini on my boat so that it just fits under the boom and I can use it while under sail. I even made a snap-on "dodger" for it. This creates a, warm on cold days and shaded on hot, sheltered cockpit area forward of the traveler leaving the aft part of the cockpit clear for driving the boat.
This is the most-used accessory I have added and really adds to the comfort of the boat.
Oh, I also put seat cushions in the forward part of the cockpit to complete the effect .
I have posted photos here in the past and if I can find them, I'll post again.
If you like cruising, a bimini is a really nice addition. Having it workable under sail really adds crew comfort, too!
Comments on umbrellas: They look cute but they don't actually provide any protection if there is any wind blowing. I have seen several destroyed in normal breezes and am not impressed by the skimpy shade they provide. Just my .02
