I used to have the problem that you described. Not any more. I installed a Tiller Tamer to keep the rudder in place. I also installed a Power Thruster to protect the rudder from the prop. This also protects swimmers and provides more directed thrust from the prop. Pictures are on page 3 of my site: http://www.icesculptureworld.com/santana2023c/page3.html

To keep the engine from swinging side ways when healing, I also attached a stainless steel loop to the back side of the engine couling. I hoop a bungee cord to this, which keeps the engine to the center of the boat. A picture is on page 5 of my site: http://www.icesculptureworld.com/santana2023c/page5.html
