So far I haven't found anything simple as a fix but...
The lifting line travels through the square aluminum channel that holds the only step as you go into the cabin.
For what it's worth, the box channel has a sharp angle right about where the step is located. That angle is a great wear point for the line which has to slide back and forth across it everytime you lift or lower the CB.
Slowly but surely the line wears out. If the angle inside is sharper than others it may wera out faster than others also.
So far mine went about five years and I replaced it just because I had an easy chance to do it.
