Another option would be to install "studs" for a lack of a better word. They are long wood screw lags that have a machine thread on the other end. Sometimes used to screw into a wall and then the handrail bracket is attached with an acorn nut to prevent injuries. I don't know if they are available in stainless, I would think so. The nuts could be countersunk into the pin and covered over with putty or 5200. Then any removal of the pin in the future would not disturb the fastener into the hull and backing. You could install the "studs" with wet epoxy for better bite. Bob
