a suggestion Gary- see if you can get a short pole mount that can be put either straight ahead for reaching, AKA the conventional bowsprit; and also mounted outward at 45 degrees on either tack for running at deeper angles.
The really fancy racing boats have sprits that swivel aft, to gain some of the benefits of a conventional spinnaker pole. That strikes me as a bit complicated, but if you just added two extra hard points for the clamp holding down the sprit, at each gunwhale.... maybe right next to the bow pulpit foot or even integrated into it.... you could gain a lot of functionality for little cost & complexity.
FWIW I am thinking of adding a bowsprit & a mast head A-sail to my older S23 but that's long way in the future because I have a LOT of other projects to finish first.
