Which makes it 'elegant' in my book. He removed the forestay tensioner... a simple, basic lever attached aft of the furling drum, pushed to the bow deck, which tensions the 'stay. Lever 'locked' into the base of #1 stanchion of the pulpit. WHat he did, was fabricate out of SS stock, this same lever, but perhaps 10" longer (forget the dimensions). The SS is thicker than the original aluminum for strength, projects forward of the bow, flies his tack off of it.
Simple, and extremely effective, or at the very least far more effective than what it had been. As a basic 'cruiser', non-racing sailor (myself), it can't get much easier than that for a mod. I expect to copy him (eventually), problem is my finding a piece of SS stock that thick. That should place my tack roughly a foot further forward, instantly, with no further effort on my part.
