Have you thought of using a 'C' beam instead of bar stock? It could be lighter & stiffer, probably a bit easier to find too.
A 10" extension is enough to be worth it (with regard to sail efficiency), maybe getting into territory where you have to be careful of it when docking?
I always thought a great secondary use for those cruisers anchor-roller bowsprits was to fly an A-sail from them, usually they have good lateral bracing too. I worked on an anchor bowsprit for our former trailer-sailer but never came up with a finished product that was de-mountable and secure enough to suit me.
