As for the first one, it's just shaped that way because the designer wanted it that way. LoL

What ever design you end up with, it really doesn't matter. On occaisions I find that the sheets get caught on anything they can! It is very seldom since I've redsgined the gooseneck which removes everything forward of the mast to get caught on. Additionally, I can use a regular winch handle.
