The board slides from side to side and does rest against the trunk when in use. It clunks against the trunk when the boat rocks at anchor.
The board has a bit of a taper, being thinner at the upper edge than in a horizontal line through the pin when the board is down. As the pin (and hole) wear, the angle at which the board rests against the tank gradually steepens, so less surface meets the trunk to bear force.
I replaced my pin and made a relatively snug bearing out of epoxy-glass fibers-graphite in the boards hole. The board can still slide. My screws pulled out only after the wood had deteriorated. I replaced screws with through bolts, but had to cut open the tank again to do so.
This was the inside of my tank two years after treating.
