What I wonder?

What I keep wondering is if the two wood screws and the external pin wasn't meant to be a shear point in case of an impact? I know fixed keel boats have nothing to do but stop, spin around, or break. I guess if you hit something low enough on the board it may swing back if it wasn't too side loaded against the trunk. And since it appears that the board will punch through the trunk if it drops too low in the trunk maybe mounting it with two wood screws was just there way to get it done cheep and quickly and had nothing to do with limiting hull damage in an impact. Just wondering out loud. Any thoughts? Bob
