If I understand what you propose doing, it seems reasonable. When you refer to the "forward compartment" do you mean the sealed bow flotation compartment? I assume that is what you mean since that is the most likely place to be "holed".

One modification of my system I am considering is related to what you propose. It would involve building a bilge box recessed into the stern flotation compartment to collect any water entering the cabin. A three way valve installed at the intake of the bilge pump and a second hose run to the bilge would allow the water to be pumped overboard.

While I have never had the cabin on a boat swamped by a large wave, I have a friend who had that happen when a large power boat traveling at high speed passed very close to him.
