Hi all,
I'm looking at a Santana 21 to buy and have a couple of questions for the group. It doesn't have a traveler as part of the mainsail rigging? Is this common? Is this a problem or is it hassle to hold the sail where you want it? I'm a novice sailor but am looking to get a stable, safe boat that I can sail on lakes and eventually do some exploring along the coast of w. washington.
The boat seems to be in good shape with a new bottom paint last year. The keel cable appears to be good, but I was wondering about a couple of things on the floor of the boat...(i'm sure "floor" isn't the proper name, but I don't know what is). There are 3 large bolts right where the v-berth begins in the floor. They are large - more than 1" across. They are pretty rusted. Is this a problem?
Also, on the floor right inside where you step into the cabin, the floor is cracked and soft. Is this a structural problem?
And I guess I'd just like to hear from someone who's sailed the S 21 and how they like it. Oh, one more question...What size outboard does one need with a boat like her? I have a 4 hp Seahorse. Would that be enough?
Thanks for your help. I've been reading through the forums with great interest.
Best, Carol
