I made a long tapered stick out of the edge of the old hatch boards to help reach those edge seams (my cutout couldn't be as close to the side on my model C because of the berths on each side of the cabin. Other handy tools used included a bee hive tool. Also shown is the foam plug to fill the void at end of "bulkhead cleat."
This is what it looked like after putting on the layer of cloth tape on top of the fillet like you have.
This shows a bulkhead meeting the seam with the corner foam "plug" covered over, but before any barrier coat layers.
This is what it looked like after several more layers of epoxy with barrier coat. it also shows the small aluminum backup strips I used with the SS machine screws dripping epoxy. I like your wood backup design better, but I was impatient and had the aluminum strips already.
