Hello everybody. I've got one of those boat problems. I keep my boat on a trailer over the winter at Diamond Valley Lake in Hemet CA and then put it in a slip for the summer in San Diego. I went and checked it recently and saw the the 4 by 4 tube steel that protrudes from the front of the boat was developing a rust problem. After knocks from a rock, holes opened up. It is not safe to haul it. I do have a welder three miles away who will replace it. The rest of the trailer is in good shape. My main question is: Are there any special precations I need to take if I put the boat on boat stands and pull the trailer out from under it?
So here are my options. 1) I have RV towing insurance for the trailer. I am going to call AAA and have them come out and try to put it on a 21-foot flatbed and haul it over. I'm wondering if this will work. 2) getting a mobile welder to come to the lake. This could be a problem because there are tight restrictions on everything that happens there and the welder probably wouldn't be as good as my welder, who is a sailor. 3) Put the boat on boat stands. I am wondering if this would stress the hull unduly. 4) Buy another trailer. Does anyone know sources and costs. Any thoughts? Bob
