What I'd asked, is if you used 3M 5200 along the top of the CB trunk, in order to fill it when you laid the sole back in. That third pic (showing your cut-out where you put the CB through bolts) shows what appears to be 5200 running the length. I ask, because I found no reason to NOT re-use my existing sole. However, there are slight 'curves' to the original wood. As you know, that reinforced heavy (2) layers of glass that runs over the trunk, just above the through-bolts... well, it has obviously kept that part of the sole higher than elsewhere. Hence, from that point, aft, I have a small concave curve where weight through the years has it slightly curved down (hope that not to much overkill). Am thinking of two closure possibilities, as follows: 5200 as a height filler/sealer. Put in the one piece of sole, then clean out the squeezed out excess (leaving room for the epoxy). Then do same on other sole pice, clean and then pour in the closure epoxy. The second solution I'm debating, is simply building up the trunk top from those heavt mats aft with a few layers of cloth. Well, I guess it'll come to me as I get there.
My biggest concern right now is this apparent rash I've picked up on my hands and forearms! No matter how 'careful' I am, I seem to get this epoxy on me (go figure, eh?
Whether it be a combination of 'glass prickling my skin, then epoxy... either way, I have this rash that almost looks and feels like poison ivy. What a PITA!! Could be from anything, but to easy for me now, elbow deep into this project, to wonder if it's a chemical reaction.
You ever experience this? I remember reading that some people can develope a rash from the West System epoxy. Got to go find that literature, see what the symptoms/cure is.
After your basic epoxy-glass-epoxied the underside of your sole... how many more coats of epoxy did you apply? I first laid a heavy coat of epoxy; then completely saturated the cloth pieces BEFORE laying them in place (works the best for me); then, later, came through again and smoothed another layer of epoxy over the saturated glass mesh. (my point in asking, is that I expect to have resin and hardener left over, but fail to see why I would simply add layers of epoxy over it all, just because I have some on hand?)
