Bail strap and block at the masthead, rather than just above the forestay. Primarily due to the larger sized Asymm, I would imagine. I left it that way. I use a hard attach at the bow (stanchion #1 base through-bolt for tensioning lever), and clip a snatch-block in place for the tack. I use a tack line, which gives me 'play' at both the head and the tack. While no expert, I found that being able to trim from both ends allows me (on those occassions when needed) a better ability at some angles to better fill and maintain the chute. Please understand, I'm not saying it's better that way, it just appears that way to me. I do know that I wouldn't (want to) fly it from the 'stay, but I certainly wouldn't fly it from the bow rail as Tom is, at least not where I am. A personal thing, understand, probably fine, just doesn't sit quite well with me. I've been hit to often on Lake Michigan on a calm, steady 10 knot day, with an instant (example) 23 knot 'slam' from a differing angle, as much as 60 degrees off. While I'm sure the rail could take it on occasion, not sure what shape it would be in after a couple of years, and I like the pretty, straight tubes and rail just the way they are. Again, most likely fine, but... I'd rather not even have it on my mind. The dimensions that Tom gives, however, sounds pretty much what my smaller Asymm is (not that I remembered to check, sorry!).
Sorry, Bob, almost missed your last question about the sock. No, that wouldn't lower your head by 2'. Not sure exactly, but maybe by... 6 to 8 inches, if that. The attachment point just topside of the snuffer, obviously. And the inside shackle is fab'd as close to the topside snuffer cloth as they can conveniently get it, say... 2" below the fabric. Yes, I'd guestimate about 6", possibly 8".
In any event, I'll be using the chute more often this year, and also plan to start using the larger Asymm, too, so I'll need the block at the masthead.
