Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that the full force on the tack is at the rail on the bow pulpit! I have a block at the top of the vertical post on the pulpit which leads to a second block mounted at the pulpit base on the starboard side. The tack line is then led back to the cockpit. Most of the force will be on the second block. I agree it is preferable to be able to adjust both the halyard and the tack line. If, in the future, I go to a larger asymm spinnaker it will be tacked to a spinnaker furler mounted on an 18">24" bowsprit.
While we can have winds in the 20 to 50 mph range in Puget Sound, they are rare in the summer. More typical is 0>15 mph.
I know the previous owner flew a J24 symmetrical spinnaker with a 26' leech and 15'10" foot as an experiment. He said it worked fine.
