Dear WILF,
Don't know if this will be helpful, but I don't loosen my forestay when dropping the mast. My forestay runs up the middle of the jib furler so it's not all that accessable. Once the mast rake is set I leave the forestay turnbuckle alone. I loosen the backstay to pull the pin on the forestay shackle. Works pretty good.
I have the S21 manual on tuning the standing rigging. If you'd like a copy shoot me your email/fax/address and I'll get you a copy.
WHATEVER YOU DO, make sure everything in your standing rigging is properly done and in good shape or you may wind up with a two piece mast like I did last year. Not a good way to end the season.
You'll find a lot of good advise at this forum.
Good Sailing!
PS If you haven't yet give that keel cable a once over.
